Nose: Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Palate: Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Finish: Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Overall: Astonishing.

Nose: A ridge of vanilla leads to mountain of peat capped with citrus fruits and circled by clouds of sea spray.
Palate: Sweet vanilla counterbalanced with lemon and lime followed by that surging Ardbeg smoke that we all know and love.
Finish: Long and glorious; sea salted caramel and beach bonfire smoke.
Overall: Precise balance, big smoke and non-chill filtered. This is why this is such a famous dram.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose:
Multifaceted, notes of peat and little flourishes of dark sugar,
freshly ground espresso beans, cereal notes and a most sophisticated
tar.
Palate:
Led by sweet, ripe fruit and black forest honey. A good helping of
malt. The throne then usurped by a powerful peat and smoked barley.
Finish:
Very long, caramel and malt weave their way through peat smoke and dark
sugar and just a hint of fresh espresso coffee before it finally peters
out.
Overall: Such deft balance! How wonderful to sample Ardbeg so beautifully complimented by sherry.

The Ardbeg distillery has been producing whisky since 1798, and began commercial production in 1815.Like most Scottish distilleries, for most of its history, its whisky was produced for use in blended whisky, rather than as a single malt.
By 1886 the distillery produced 300,000 gallons of whisky per year, and employed 60 workers.Production was halted in 1981, but resumed on a limited basis in 1989 and continued at a low level through late 1996, during the period when Ardbeg was owned by Hiram Walker.The distillery was bought and reopened by Glenmorangie plc (owned by the French company LVMH) with production resuming on June 25, 1997 and full production resuming in 1998.
The distillery was reopened by Ed Dodson in 1997 and handed over to Stuart Thomson, who managed it from 1997 to 2006. Michael "Mickey" Heads, an Islay native and former manager at Jura who had worked at Ardbeg years earlier, took over on 12 March 2007.
